Ignored by the rest of the world for centuries, the people of the Cayman Islands developed their own distinct culture and charming way of life. From the 1970’s, the Islands that time forgot were discovered and development has proceeded rapidly to the sophisticated, cosmopolitan, financial services and tourism centre that exists today. Despite this rapid development, the Cayman Islands have maintained their beauty, tranquility and friendliness making this idyllic paradise the envy of the Caribbean and indeed much of the developed world. The 60,000 plus residents of the Cayman Islands today represent a harmonious blend of individuals from more than 100 different nationalities. Approximately half of the population is Caymanian with primarily English, Scottish and African origins. The remainder of the population is attracted to live and work in the vibrant economy and beautiful surroundings which these Islands afford.
